Winter
Winter in Setomaa is special, with the aroma of porridge cooked on the fire. It's just in winter, when you put your back up against a big, hot Seto furnace that you understand why the Setos build such huge furnaces. It's especially cozy when someone pulls out a meal baked in the furnace. Winter is the time to enjoy life and Setomaa, and it's just in winter that one is most warmly received here. For those unafraid of the cold, one can choose a skiing, skating, or sledding place. Proper cross-country skiing trails are open in Värska. For those interested in extreme cold, Setomaa has plenty to offer, because winters here are colder than they are in Tallinn or in West Estonia.
